The agricultural industry has been and continues to be
vital to Brazil's growth and the success of it's overall economy.
Brazil is becoming increasingly industrialized, but it still depends
on its agricultural sector for three of its economic priorities,
employment, exports, and fighting hunger.

The agribusiness sector, including farming, processing
agricultural supplies and related transport, with a GDP of R$508.27
billion in 2003, accounted for about one third of the country's
total GDP. Approximately 20% of the labor force in Brazil works in
farming and over the last decade farm employment has continued to
grow. In 2003 Brazil's agricultural exports reached a record level
of US $30.6 billion. The agribusiness sector was responsible for
41.9 % of the country's total exports.

Brazil ranks first in the world in the production of coffee,
sugar cane, oranges, and papaya. It's production of chicken and
soybeans ranks as second, and is second in soybean exports as 40% of
it's soybean production was exported in 2003
